On Monday, July 14, Golf Australia advised all Clubs and Administrators of significant changes to the players’ liability insurance. This policy applies to all playing members of the club who hold a membership that includes the Golf Australia Levy. The following information has been advised as being current:
- Personal Injury Claims – Typically, this involves a member hitting a golf ball that causes injury to another person. For these claims, no excess applies.
- Property Damage Claims – Typically, this is where a member hits a golf ball that causes damage to a neighbouring property or motor vehicle. For these claims, a $1,000 excess applies.
Until recently, no excess has applied to property damage caused by an affiliated golfer. However, we are now advised that this has changed significantly, and members are informed that they may be liable for an excess if they cause any property damage.
For example, a ball leaves the property while teeing off on the 4th hole and dents a hits a passing car, causing a dent. In the past, a claim was submitted to Sportscover, with the repair bill covered under the insurance policy and no excess applicable. As it now stands, members are not covered in these circumstances and may be liable for the cost of repairs.

Given the recent nature of this advice from Golf Australia, the Club is still awaiting advice from its broker regarding any implications this may have for our own policy. Members will be informed as soon as we receive advice and the Board has considered any implications.
